Things are happening in Detroit. First there was the rediscovery of Rodriguez, the criminally overlooked troubadour from the early 70s, reborn last year thanks to the film “Searching For Sugar Man”. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
Now comes the rediscovery of three Detroit brothers who formed a band called “Death” in 1971 and recorded a demo that some say gave us the first glimpse of punk, if not they were certainly the first black punk band. A documentary based on their career “A Band Called Death” is now making the rounds. Info here:
