Carla Thomas – Carla (1966-Stax)

Tomorrow I’m off to New Orleans for the Ponderosa Stomp, an amazing music festival (dig this lineup), and one of the artists I’m most excited to see is Carla Thomas.

The queen of Memphis soul, a Stax legend and daughter of Rufus Thomas, Carla is best known for singing one of the greatest soul songs ever:

I recently picked up her 1966 record Carla, and was thrilled to add it to my collection. She’s just so good.

Don’t miss on a Carla Thomas record if you see one for sale, and for goodness sakes, if you get the chance to see her live, jump on it! With all the lousy crap going on in the world today, it’s a treat to be able to go see a living legend perform, and I feel so grateful to have the chance to do just that.
